Using acrylic paint I painted this scalloped edge with a white center on the cover.

I gave my journal a title, and painted it on. I used a blow-dryer to speed up the paint drying process because nobody likes to watch paint dry!

Once the paint was dry, I used a permanent marker to outline all of my painted areas and add on a few details.

Finally I tied a ribbon around my journal and tied it with a bow. Stapling the ribbon to the back of the journal to keep it in place, and so that the ribbon doesn't get lost when it's untied.
